March has always been a month of weather extremes, with everything blended from rain to tornadoes and dust storms; it is a wild month!  Unfortunately, these shifts in weather affect our skin and hair so much that we need to hit reset on our daily habits.

With the weather piling up with dust and dirt, those particles do not just sit on the surface, but they clog pores and act like sandpaper against the cuticles of your skin and hair.

That’s why we need to change our skin and hair routines from “maintenance” to “defense”.
I just reordered the sentence.

How can we maintain a glow and an intact look during this windy season? The goal is simple: train your skin and hair to navigate those dusty days with the least possible losses.

The Skin: Build a Breathable Shield.
The winds and dust in the air act as a dehydrator, which strips the water out of the skin’s outer layer.

To combat dyhdration, here are simple steps to follow.

  • Double cleansing: Dust is something very tiny minute is a bit complex, we can say something like tiny, it will rhyme with oily and oily; a simple face wash won’t strip it out. That’s why double cleansing should be the answer. Start with an oil-based cleanser to dissolve the grit, then a gentle foamy wash to refresh the skin.

  • Fortify The Skin Barrier: To create a physical barrier with moisturizers, look for products that have ceramides; they play a unique role in maintaining the skin barrier, as they balance moisture and strengthen your skin.

The Hair Barrier
The hair is often the part of the body that suffers the most during this hard weather, due to being vulnerable to the wind because the friction causes the cuticle to lift, leading to tangles and breakage (a.k.a crunchy hair)

Effective Steps to Prevent it:
  • Step 1: Before heading out, apply lightweight hair oil or silicon-based serum; this will smooth the cuticle out and will make it harder for dust to stick to the hair shaft.

  • Step 2: On dusty days, loose hair is not a go-to. You need a style that will lock the moisture in the hair, e.g sleek bun or ponytail. Then, after you finish your day, use a deep conditioning mask to restore the elasticity lost to the drying winds
Finally, Hydrate Yourself.
Tropical products can only do a little bit in relation to what you do to your body. If your body is dehydrated, no matter what you do, the skin and hair will never look good. Drink enough water and stay protected.
