Winter calls for layering up and getting extra cozy and warm, but that's not only for us humans, our furry friends too need extra care when winter hits.  They feel the cold more than we think, and a little extra care during the chilly months goes a long way. Here are some tips to help your furry friends stay healthy and happy in the cold weather.

Keep Their Sleeping Spots Warm
Just like you ditch the cold side of the bed in winter, your pet needs a warm sleeping spot too. Move their bed away from windows and cold tiles, and give them a thicker blanket or a plush bed they can sink into. This will keep them warm during their sleep.

Layer Up (Yes, Even for Pets)
Some pets — especially short-haired ones — get cold fast. A soft winter sweater or a cute hoodie can make their little adventures way more comfortable. Just make sure it fits well and doesn’t irritate their skin. Keeping them warm is essential to avoid any flus.

Watch Out for Dry Skin
Winter air can be rude. It dries everything out — including your pet’s skin. Keep an eye out for dandruff, itching, or flaky patches. Adding omega-3s (vet-approved, of course) or using a moisturizing pet-safe shampoo can help them stay soft and happy.

Shorter Walks, Bigger Playtime
Cold pavement can be tough on paws. Keep walks a bit shorter during colder days and make up for it with indoor playtime. Think toys, tug-of-war, or even hide-and-seek. Playing doesnt have to be oudtoors, indoor games can be fun for them too.

Protect Their Little Paws
If your pet is walking somewhere really cold or wet, paw balms or pet socks can be lifesavers. They protect against cracking and irritation — and honestly, they look adorable on them.

Hydration Still Matters
Just because they’re not panting from the heat doesn’t mean they don’t get thirsty. Winter dehydration is sneaky. Keep their water fresh and accessible, and change their water bowl 3 times per day.
