Sahel season is finally here! The season of warmth, and the longing desire to soak up the sun’s golden rays. As the days grow longer and the temperatures rise, we find ourselves yearning for that perfect sun-kissed tan, that bronzy look that we all know and love. However, just because we love a good tan doesn't mean we should risk our health for it, here’s how to get the perfect damage-free tan.
1. Sunscreen Is Your Best Friend
Before exposing your skin to UV radiation, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF. Choose a sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays and has at least SPF 30 or higher. Apply it generously and reapply every two hours or more frequently if you're swimming or sweating to ensure you are protected at all times.
2. Avoid Peak Hours
Usually, the sun is at its hottest state between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, so make sure you are extra careful during these times and seek the shade as much as you can. Do not forget to reapply sunscreen on your face and body, too.
3. Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated, because sun exposure can dehydrate the skin. Hydrated skin is less prone to damage and can recover more effectively, it will even make your tan last longer.
4. Protect Your Eyes and Scalp
Don't forget that your scalp and eyes are prone to sun damage too, wearing UV-labeled sunglasses and a hat will surely give you the protection you need from the sun. You can also spray some hair mists that contain SPF that will prevent drying scalp
5. Use Tanning Products Wisely
Tanning oils and creams give you a bronze beautiful tan, but make sure they contain some SPF in them, if not you can lather on sunscreen before adding your tanning products to protect your skin.
