Since entering adulthood, every day we wake up filled with optimism and a sense of purpose. We leave our houses with plans to make, money to earn, and dreams to achieve; yet life has other plans for us. Small inconveniences like the alarm not going off on time or being stuck in traffic to major setbacks like your big work proposal getting rejected and everything in between. These “out-of-control” situations make us feel helpless and useless. We go hard on ourselves for not going according to plans and not being able to achieve our goals. We spent the nights sleepless just thinking about what went wrong and entering the guilt-tripping phase. Quoting the iconic Friends intro “No one told us that life is gonna be this way.” with that in mind, I bet that no one told you that it’s ok not to have everything under control. It’s ok if you went a couple of steps backward. Be kind to yourself and always keep these reminders in mind every time you face a hurdle.

1- You Cannot Control Everything, Learn to Embrace the Situation.
Part of growing up and entering the adult world is having everything in the palm of your hand. We grew up with the idea of controlling every aspect of our lives, financially, physically, or mentally. Yet life keeps on surprising us with unexpected events that shake our lives. These events can range from death to financial drop and everything in between, and as much as powerful and in charge we think we are, we cannot control the inevitable. There’s a major difference between having things out of your control and losing control, and life pretty much will not always go your way, no matter how hard you try to get it together and that’s ok. Having things not play out exactly like you’ve envisioned doesn’t make you weaker or less grown up. Embrace the fact that not everything is up to you and that there are major forces that have the upper hand.

2- You've Already Done So Much Progress So Cut Yourself Some Slack
The race to perfectionism is tiresome. It’s understandable that you’re looking for constant progress and ways to improve your life for the better. You cannot blame yourself or feel bad because progress is taking a slow time. You cannot rush perfection or rush the progress to a healthy life. Also, what you are now, is already a better version of who you were. Life has made you stronger, sharper, and witter. So don’t take this progress for granted and cut yourself some slack.

3- Nothing is Worth Sacrificing Your Mental Health for it.
“We came, we saw, we conquered.” we take this quote by heart when talking about our accomplishments and the things we’ve done when describing our journey to the top; however, we fail to learn that we shouldn’t live in mental anguish to achieve excellence. No matter how important your job is or how much your hobby means to you, if reaching the top comes with the price of constant anxiety and declining mental health, is it really worth doing? I get it, life is tiresome and is constantly picking up a fight with us for survival, we must fight to reach the top and unleash our untapped potential, yet there’s a difference between relishing in a new adventure and entering a battle in which we know that we’ll end up losing our psyche. Always take care of yourself and remember that you matter above anything else.

It’s OK to Have Fun
Whether you have a deadline or an important meeting …etc. Always remember to have fun. Take a minute to breathe and go out. Make yourself laugh in the middle of the storm. Listen to your favorite song in the middle of a boring day. If there’s a bore, enter the fun zone.
