Summer season is about the tan, parties, and having fun. Yet, there is more we can do than just chill or travel. What makes summertime a great time is the ability to mix fun and grow a hobby. However, the idea of having a new hobby can be intimidating. Whether it's the fear of not getting things right or not knowing how to get started, we all get scared of trying something new. Luckily this is your guide to overcoming the fear of trying new things and growing a new hobby.

Here’s how to overcome anxieties about getting a new hobby and what type of hobbies you should try that won’t consume from you too much time.

1- Remember That It’s a Hobby, Not Your Job or Homework

What scares most of us when we pick a new hobby in our adult lives, is that we treat it like it’s work. A task that we must excel at from the start or else it’s not worth doing. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, a way to make you feel good and grow other skills. So when you perform it as a job, you lose the enjoyment and will never want to do it. Always remember that it is a hobby, not a task. Loosen up when you are doing it and have fun.

2- Pick Something That You Like

Once again, hobbies are meant to be enjoyed, so don’t pick a complicated hobby that you will spend hours researching, executing and eventually becoming frustrated with. This hobby doesn’t require you to master all skills or become a genius in the making. No matter how simple of a hobby it seems to you, sometimes simplicity is all you need to have a good time.

3- Find Friends with Similar Interests to Pick up Said Hobby

It takes two to tango (Also a great hobby if you want to pick as well).  Having friends who share the same interests as you, makes it a bit better because you can support each other and bond over what you’ve learned and even make other friends too from the place you guys decided to grow your hobbies at.

What Hobbies Can You Pick?

1- Kickboxing

kickboxing
If you want to release some pent-up anger, stress and looking for ways to improve your physical condition, kicking boxing is a great way to do so. You learn how to manage your anger, control your body movement, and feel like kickass too, a hero of your own story.

2- Pottery

Pottery requires dedication, focus, and most importantly the will to create something from a piece of clay. Pottery is about exploring the artistic side of you, and the ability to create beauty and art that you can give to others or keep for yourself.

3- Tango

"Dance is the joy of movement and the heart of life."
For those who want to improve their rhythm and shape but are not into extreme workouts, dancing is a great way to make life enjoyable.
Feeling the music, and letting your body move to the rhythm is a great way to forget your worries and stress.

4- Reading Books

What if you don’t feel like doing anything at all? What if you want to just sit down but at the same time you want to be productive? Books are food for the mind and soul. Pick up a book from a genre you feel like reading, listen to the audiobook, and enter the world of the story.

5- Cooking

By all means cooking as a hobby can be quite a fulfilling experience, but don’t treat it like it’s a competition in hell’s kitchen with Gordon Ramsy screaming at you. What makes cooking great, is you can experiment a lot and try making cuisines from other cultures.
