Some dining experiences are simply unforgettable, and this one we’re sharing now is definitely one of them. Exquisite, modish, and exceptional in every way, Maré Social opens its doors at Westin Kattameya Dunes, bringing a Portuguese flair to the dining scene of Cairo. Inspired by Portuguese two-Michelin-star chef, Henrique SA Pessoa, the concept of Maré Social is built around offering a culture of sharing experiences. Following in the footsteps of Chef Henrique, Chef Nelson Amorim took on a culinary adventure, unveiling the finesse of mastering Portuguese cuisine with a modern twist.

As soon as we arrived, we were received and seated by a warm and friendly team getting us ready for our dining experience. We couldn’t help but notice the utterly modern aesthetic and captivating ambiance both in the indoor and outdoor areas.

For starters, we tried the Octopus Salad with Potatoes and Smoked Paprika. The salad was rich in flavor and delicious enough to tantalize the taste buds. We also tried Marinated Seabass with Sweet Potato, Corn, and  Lime Dressing. What is truly special about this dish is the distinctiveness of different flavors mastered ever so smoothly that one flavor doesn’t take away the other, and the added parsley oil was definitely spot on. As for tapas, we had Portuguese Veal Croquette with Dijon Mustard; it was tender, light, and so succulent.

Moving swiftly to the main dishes, we wanted to explore Tiger Prawns Rice with Saffron which turned out to be everything we expected and more, it is a unique fusion of flavors; the perfectly prepared and cooked shrimps together with the buttery saffron rice melt together ever so delightfully. Another dish we totally loved is the Roast Lamb Rack, juicy, tender, and mouthwatering in every way. On the side of the dish were creamy green peas pure in addition to Migas a bread-like Portuguese cuisine signature.

Having enjoyed the diverse options and the rich flavors we rejoiced for dinner, it was time we conclude this experience with desserts. We had Crème Catalana with Orange & Vanilla sprinkled with tuile biscuits. Think of crème brulee but way better and lighter than you could ever imagine; the orange flavor topped with vanilla ice cream gave it a truly unique taste. We also tried Pineapple Carpaccio, precisely and finely shredded to perfection on top of goat cheese cream and sprinkled with pink peppercorns and mint. Another interesting thing we discovered on the beverages menu, besides the exotic cocktails and mocktails, are the lemonades and cold tea selections named after the elements ‘Earth’, ‘Fire’, ‘Air, and ‘Water’. We had Earth which is a blend of hibiscus, lemon juice, pomegranate, and cinnamon syrup, and we also tried Air which is a mix of lemon, fresh mint, and coriander syrup. Both drinks were refreshing and really unique in taste.
