CAIRO - 8 May 2023: The Egyptian Ministry of Environment is preparing to organize a global marathon in Wadi El Rayan Reserve in Fayoum Governorate, in cooperation with a French company, as part of the Ministry's interest in tourism activities.
This comes in parallel with the ministry's research work of new green projects inside the reserve, most notably an open zoo, a safe haven for wild animals, similar to the seriousness of a shelter in Jordan.
In this report, we monitor the 8 most important information about the marathon, which the Ministry is discussing the procedures for organizing it soon.
1- The Sand Marathon is a global race that was organized for the first time 40 years ago in Morocco and is repeated in many countries. This is the Egyptian version under the name of the sand race in Wadi El Rayan Reserve.
2- The Sands Marathon is a race that is carried out on the condition that all environmental standards and requirements in natural reserves are taken into account.
3- The Sands Marathon is organized at a distance of approximately 120 km deep in the Wadi El Rayan desert in Fayoum.
4- The duration of the sand marathon in Wadi El Rayan Reserve is about four days in the desert.
5- The Sands Marathon in Wadi El Rayan Reserve, which aims to promote and support eco-tourism in Egypt.
6- The Sands Marathon in Wadi El Rayan Reserve, also aims to achieve international fame for Wadi El Rayan Reserve and ecotourism in Egypt, and it will be broadcast on international TV channels and digital broadcasting platforms.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Environment announced its agreement to support the race, provided that it adheres to the standards and requirements of natural reserves, with the need to define the responsibilities and roles of all partners, and to take all measures to obtain all necessary approvals from the concerned authorities.
