As we tuned in yesterday for the 95th Academy Awards, we held our seats tight anticipating the winners, making our guesses, and of course, taking our time admiring the glamorous moment of the red carpet; except, this year it wasn’t red, it was champagne instead.

For the first time in more than 6 decades, Hollywood stars didn’t walk a red carpet which marks a significant departure from a tradition that was kept since 1961. Creative consultants Lisa Love and Raul Aliva were asked to come up with a change and reimagine the red carpet as this year’s Academy Awards was held in a covered area instead of the open air which means dark carpets will look even darker.

Accordingly, and as the event was held in a covered area, Oscars organizers decided they wanted to create a look that resembles the beach at a sunset. "We chose this beautiful sienna, saffron color that evokes the sunset, because this is the sunset before the golden hour.” said Lisa in an interview.

Oscars' creative and production team then settled on the champagne carpet as a soothing color that wouldn’t clash with the sienna tent that was built to shield the attendees from the sun and any prospects of rain.

“The sienna-color tent and champagne-colored carpet were inspired by watching the sunset on a white-sand beach at the ‘golden hour’ with a glass of champagne in hand, evoking calm and peacefulness,” Lisa added.

The change, however, was causing issues for the organizers as news crews were covering before the stars arrived, and others inspecting the area, the carpet was already getting stained.
