Every skin type has its concerns. If your skin is shiny most of the time and you notice the appearance of blackheads, whiteheads, enlarged pores, and acne at times, then your skin type is oily. While every skin type has its pros and cons, oily skin’s cons can be a bit hard to deal with. Here are some habits and mistakes you need to avoid while catering to the needs of your oily skin.

1. Using harsh cleansers.
It is an urge wanting your oily complexion to feel fresh and squeaky clean all the time. But using harsh cleansers will through your skin off balance, which in return, will result in excess production of oil. Go for cleansers with effective formulas that deeply clean your skin without stripping it of its natural oils.

2. Washing your face with hot water.
Washing your face with very hot water dries out your skin. Again, as a response, your skin will overproduce oil to make up for the dryness. Instead, wash your face with lukewarm water.

3. Skipping moisturizer.
Some might think that oily skin doesn’t need moisturizing but that is a mistake that will later lead to irritation and premature skin aging. Oily skin, like other skin types, still needs to be moisturized. You just need to pick a suitable product such as gel-based and light-formula moisturizers.

4. Not using sunscreen.
Same with moisturizers, some tend to skip sunscreen worrying it will sit on the skin and clog the pores. But in fact, going out in the sun without sunscreen will cause your pores to become larger and more visible. Opt for gel-based sunscreens that are specially designed for oily skin. They are lighter in formula and get absorbed easily.

5. Touching your face.
Our hands gather millions of germs and bacteria from touching different surfaces throughout the day. Constantly touching your face without washing your hands results in acne and breakout.
