In a star-studded night filled with glitz and glam, renowned designer Naeem Khan unveiled his SS23 collection as the first event to take part in the launch of LMD’s Cairo Design District (CDD). In an event that transcends beyond fashion, the show was a dreamy harmony of art, finesse, and inspiration, paying homage to Egypt’s ever-growing industry of luxury fashion.
Inspired by ‘Jardin De Nuit’ or ‘Garden at Night’, the collection evokes exuberance and elegance showcased in a mesmerizing collection of blooming flowers, luscious gardens, life, and happiness. The catwalk was a beautiful painting of vibrancy, and delicacy that is at the same time powerful and striking, bringing a dazzling array of daywear, cocktail, and evening wear concluded by enchanting bridal wear.
On this remarkable occasion, we were delighted to get the chance to hear from Khan about his experience in Egypt, his thoughts on participating in the launch of CDD, and his upcoming plans.
Firstly we would like to welcome you here to Egypt. We would like to know why you have chosen Egypt as the land where you showcase your SS23 collection and how you feel about being part of the launch of CDD.
Thank you for having me in Egypt. I absolutely love it here. The love and culture remind me of India. It all started with LMD designing the first design district in Cairo. Egypt is going through many changes. It is opening up as a country to be an economical player in the world markets. With continuity, Egypt can become a hub for luxury products, especially fashion. Egyptian women love high glamour. The movie industry is flourishing and the stars are highly fashionable on the world stage. Its history and its culture interest me tremendously. Hence my first show was in Cairo Egypt.
How do you see Egypt moving forward in the luxury fashion industry, especially after witnessing renowned labels coming here to Egypt and lastly yours in this big event?
Within the next 5 years, the luxury market will be set in Egypt. New infrastructure is in the works. It provides a home for fashion and other luxury products. I intend to open a flagship store in Cairo. Perhaps a luxury hospitality business. A lot is in progress.
Could you please tell us more about your SS23 collection and the inspiration behind it?
SS 2023 was based on my love of flowers, and the beauty and happiness they bring to us. After COVID it was very clear that life is short and we need to cherish it. Hence "Jardin Nuit" 'The Night Garden'. Women who wear my clothes bloom like the flowers of the night.
Have you ever considered designing a collection inspired by Egyptian symbolism and civilization?
100% yes. I had to come here to be inspired. It will be coming soon.
Lastly, a message from you to everyone who was there to witness the moment of you being here in Egypt and how you found the experience.
I am ever so grateful to be part of this loving society. Thank u for honoring me with yourselves. I am mad about the history and your culture. And the food! I need now to go on a diet. Thank you.
