How many times do we pay an arm and leg for a high-end bag or shoe brand ever so happily? Not to generalize, but most of us do.  For instance, a celebrity drops a new makeup line and a lot of us rush to try it, or a high-end brand collaborates with a celebrity on a limited-edition fashion line and we want to own it. The question is do we do the same for local brands?

People tend to prefer luxury goods for several reasons. Some prefer them for the quality, some for the confidence it adds to how they feel, and others because of the appearance or let’s say the social image they maintain when they flaunt certain brands with their flashy logos. Whatever the reason is, everyone has the right to do as they please and there is nothing wrong with it nor should they be criticized for that. But, is it really worth all the money we pay? Does it sound rational when someone purchases an item that can be triple their salary? If you want a practical, logical answer, it is ‘No’. For the past couple of years now, our local brands are doing such a wonderful job. We now see more brands in different industries emerging into the market providing excellent quality, beautiful aesthetics, and with way better price range. So why not show these local brands and startups some love?

Spread The Word
If a friend of yours started a new business or launched a brand, help increase their reach and get their brand known. Give them a shout on your social media, share their work, and help them get known. We usually do the same for well-established brands, but at that point, small growing brands need this support more.

Support With A Purchase.
We are willing to pay hundreds and thousands for a product we haven’t used before just because the brand is known. Why not try and do the same with local brands? Now is even the best time to do so given the challenges with imported products. Who knows, maybe you turn out to love these local products. Also, if you tried something that you liked, recommend this brand to a friend.

Show Them Some Love.
When you buy a product or a fashion item from a local brand that turns out to be nice, let them know it. Leave them a good review, send them a message, ad share your thoughts. Maybe this nice and positive comment of yours is what will give them a push when they feel like giving up.

Don’t Negotiate Their Pricings.
With all honesty have you ever noticed anyone negotiating the price of something you buy from a multi-national fashion chain? We are sure not. We just pick, pay, and leave. So, if you feel it’s inappropriate or inapplicable to negotiate the prices in big and well-known shops, then don’t do the same with local brands.

To sum it up, there are a lot of people out there working really hard to bring forth a local product that can compete with imported ones. Support them when you can. It will motivate them and others to bring more quality into the market.
