CAIRO - 21 September 2022: Aswan Governorate is preparing to host one of the most prominent economic and investment events in Egypt; the International Dates Festival in October.
The event is concerned with the production and export of the best types of dates in Egypt, given that Aswan is famous for dates' cultivation and export to local and international markets.

Aswan Governorate began preparing for the activities of the Sixth International Festival of Dates, which will be held in the Sheraton Park in Aswan, in cooperation between the governorate and the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, which will take place from 8 to 10 October under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to maximize the added value of more than 2.2 million palm trees.
Major General Ashraf Attia, Governor of Aswan, said that the governorate provides unlimited support for the establishment of the Sixth International Festival of Dates and its production in an impressive and honorable manner, as it is the largest global platform specialized in marketing and investment for all products, with scientific and innovative support for farmers.
He also stressed the importance of integrated coordination between all parties for that event to be considered as a tourist attraction for the capital of African youth, economy and culture, especially in light of the many and varied activities that this vital festival will include.
Dr. Ghada Abu Zeid, Deputy Governor of Aswan, added that there are directives to provide all facilities and capabilities, and to intensify advertising campaigns in various cities and governorate centers in coordination between the localities, the Directorate of Agriculture and the Research Center, and all concerned authorities to motivate farmers to participate in this festival.
There will be seminars and indicative workshops for farmers at the festival, which is expected to contribute to the good marketing of date products of various types, where farmers will be informed of how to obtain technical support to maximize the product, as well as the mechanism and criteria for participation in the competitions that will be organized within the festival’s activities.
She pointed out that a committee was formed to receive the participations and samples from the first to the 26th of September to achieve the required safety for the products and the mechanism of storing them safely, especially that the governorates' producers and exporters of dates from all over the world, suppliers of farm services will participate in the festival, as well as exhibitors from Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, Sudan and Mauritania.
The festival's activities will also include the establishment of a bazaar area to display palm products and handicrafts, competitions, scientific seminars, folkloric performances and some cultural activities, as well as honoring the producers of the finest Egyptian dates.
For his part, Dr. Hassan Al-Shaqti, the economic advisor to the governorate, explained that the investment of high-quality date products in Aswan reaches the annual production of more than 120 thousand tons of 2.2 million palm trees, and a proposal to establish more than one factory specialized in the production of powder, molasses and date honey.
On the other hand, farmers in Aswan pointed out that the governorate is one of the largest governorates in the republic in the production of dates and is famous for producing the dry type of dates due to the very high temperatures. Citizens buy it in its season because of its quality.
