CAIRO - 13 July 2017:The Saturnia’s thermal springs, under the city’s hill, is one of the most important tourist destinations in Italy.

Therapeutic tourism is very famous in this area, where the springs are believed to be made by the gods in the legend of Maremma, taken from the mythology of old Italy, and were well-known by the Etruscans and Romans.

The legend says that the thermal springs were created during a violent fight between the gods Saturn and Jupiter, until a thunderbolt thrown by Jupiter dropped to the ground.

The waters in the baths are originally from springs two hundred meters below the earth and are heated by the Maremma volcano, containing sulphur, carbon, sulphate ,hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide, which are considered therapeutic for skin, respiration, blood circulation and rheumatic ailments. The water has a temperature of 37.5 °C and helps the body to relax.

The thermal baths in Saturina are made of several springs, coming from Mount Amiata, which is the largest of the lava domes in the Amiata lava dome complex B to the hills of Albenga and Fiora, reaching Roselle and Talamone on the west coast of central Italy.
