Skiing on salt mountains turns Egypt’s Port Said into new tourism destination

CAIRO – 11 December 2021: The city of Port Fouad in Port Said witnessed a heavy turnout of visitors from across Egypt to enjoy skiing on Salt Mountains.

The city has become a tourist attraction for its Salt Mountains that compete Ice Mountains in Europe.

The visitors were keen to ski and climb on the salt mountains similar to the snow mountains, where young men, girls and children took selfie photos amid a state of joy and the bright warm sun.

For his part, Major General Mohamed Amer, head of Port Fouad City Council, said that the city has become the first in tourism of this kind, pointing to the need to provide all services to activate internal tourism for all trips coming to see the Salt Mountains.

Amer added that one of the benefits of sitting on salt is that it withdraws negative energy from the human body, similar to physical therapy sessions, adding that some young people practice skiing on salt mountains, as happens in Europe.

Major General Mohamed Amer confirmed that the Salt Mountains in Port Fouad are a new destination for Egyptian tourism to the extent that they are described as the icebergs of Egypt, and visitors are keen to skate on them, and photographers take pictures of visitors, adding that the experience is similar to being in the midst of heavy snow.

Amer highlighted that the city of Port Fouad witnessed a great boom in the field of tourism, and now owns many distinctive tourist areas that are widely circulated through social media.
