CAIRO – 5 July 2017: Governor of Cairo Atef Abdel Hamid accompanied Wednesday a number of ambassadors from Arab and foreign countries in a tour of Abdeen Palace on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Khedival Cairo.

At least 40 ambassadors and representatives of Arab and foreign countries took part in the tour, including ambassadors and representatives from Australia, Lebanon, Paraguay, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Pakistan, Armenia, Latvia, China, Mali, Russia, Vietnam and Italy.

The ambassadors were very impressed by Abdeen Palace, which is one of the most famous historical Egyptian sites that was built during the reign of Muhammad Ali Pasha, who ruled Egypt from 1805 until 1848.

Abdel Hamid said it is the first time such a large number of ambassadors visits the palace, especially on the occasion of the anniversary of the establishment of Khedival Cairo.

He expressed his appreciation for the ambassadors' quick response to the invitation, pointing out that most of the countries represented in this visit have cooperation agreements and historical ties with Cairo.

Cairo was keen to invite the ambassadors to inform them on the history of modern Egypt, hoping that this visit would have a positive impact on tourism and culture sectors in Egypt, he added.

The palace was the headquarters of the government from 1872 until 1952, as it witnessed many historical events beginning from the royal era to the emergence of modern Cairo.
