1152 - The marriage of Louis VII of France and the most famous woman in medieval Europe Queen Eleanor Aquitaine of Bordeaux is dissolved.

 

1801 - Battle of Abu Qir breaks out in Alexandria between British and French forces near the ruins of Nicopolis in Egypt.

 

1804 - The Napoleon Code is adopted in French civil law.

 

1960 - Sharpeville massacre in South Africa by police forces in a demonstration against the apartheid regime, in which 69 people were killed.
