Egypt’s Minister of Tourism &Antiquities Khaled El Enany witnesses placement of Tutankhamun’s pieces in Thei display vitrines in GEM

 

CAIRO - 8 March 2021:Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El Enany witnessed the placement of the first pieces of the treasures of King Tutankhamun in thei display vitrines in the Grand Egyptian Museum.

 

Reconstructing and placing another statue of King Ramses II in the museum at the entrance courtyard of the glass pyramid

 

Today, Dr. Khaled El Enany Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, took a tour of the Grand Egyptian Museum to follow up on developments in its work, accompanied by Major General Atef Moftah, supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum project and the surrounding area, Dr. Mostafa Waziry, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Dr. Al Tayeb Abbas, Assistant Minister for Archaeological Affairs in the museum .

 

The minister saw the archaeologists and restorers placing the first artifacts of King Tutankhamun’s treasures in their own exhibition halls in the halls designated for them, amid strict security measures.

 

The minister also checked out  the second statue of King Ramses II in the museum, which is located in the entrance courtyard of the glass pyramid, which was restored, strengthened, had a mechanical and chemical cleaning, and it was re-installed.

 

In addition, he checked out the great stairs and side stairs and the installation work of statues of King Sonnet I in the place of their final display.

 

During the tour, Dr. Khaled El Enany thanked all the workers, archaeologists and restorers for the efforts made, pointing to the continuous cooperation between the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the Museum in order to achieve this achievement, praising the team spirit and the effort exerted in the process of transporting, restoring and placing artifacts in the exhibition halls.

 

Information about the second statue of King Ramses II in the Grand Egyptian Museum:

 

This statue is about 8 meters high and weighs about 30 tons, and it has been divided into 5 pieces since it was discovered hundreds of years ago.

 

This statue represents King Ramses II standing with his left foot forward, holding some scrolls in his hands and wearing a short royal kilt with folds and pleats, and the statue wears a belt around its waist decorated with ornaments and bears the king's name and behind the statue is a back pillar inscribed with some hieroglyphic texts.
