Dhafer L'Abidine marks his directorial debut with ’Ghodwa‘ movie

CAIRO - 7 March 2021: During a press conference held at 32 BIS Gallery, Tunisia, on Friday March 5, Dhafer L'Abidine announced his directorial debut, the feature-length film Ghodwa.
 
He also added that he will star in the film as well as producing it, through his company DOUBLE A, in collaboration with Nomadis Images.
 
 
      Dhafer L'Abidine commented: “I always wanted to direct, but I wanted to find the right story. Ghodwa is a story that is very close to my heart, and that I feel strongly about. It’s a Tunisian story, but it’s social and human aspects have universal appeal”.
 
The Tunisian actor acknowledged his enthusiasm for producing this film and performing a role in it, in addition to writing the script with the Egyptian filmmaker Ahmed Amer.
 
L'Abidine thanked the sponsors of his film project, expressing his pride in cooperating with the producer, Dora Bouchoucha,  whom he has a long working relationship and friendship.
 
 
     While Producer Dora Bouchoucha, Founder of Nomadis Images said: “The script of the film "Ghodwa" attracted me, although I usually choose my projects based on the idea behind them before starting to write the script and implement the film”. The Tunisian producer spoke of her admiration for Dhafer L’abidine’s script-writing style.
 
      In the same context, Alaa Karkouti and Maher Diab, commented: “We believe that the film will be a very unique experience. From the moment it was born as a project, we could see Dhafer's passion about it, especially that it marks his first time in the director's seat."
 
 
After years of living apart, Habib and  his son Ahmed are brought together by Habib’s worsening state of health.
 
With a deadline to catch and mounting pressure from unpredictable events, their roles are reversed, a situation neither is prepared for.
 
      Dhafer L'Abidine co-stars in the film along with: Najla Ben Abdallah, Bahri Rahali, Ghanem Zrelli, Rabeb Srairi and Ahmed Berrhouma.
 
The film is sponsored by Sabrine for mineral water, Fatales Stores for cosmetic, and Gac Motor.
 
Dhaffer L’abdine is the gentle handsome Tunisian star whose handsomeness quickly captured the hearts of fans.
 
For an actor, handsomeness may help to get into others hearts but to stay in it, he has to own another kind of beauty; that of talent, perseverance and hard work. 


L’abdine owns all these kinds of loveliness, the matter that made him a mega star in a short period of time. He was born in Tunis in 1972.

 

L’abdine was a professional football player until the age of 23, where he was severely injured, and his injury prevented him from playing football for two years.

 

In those two years he worked in the modeling field.

 

After his recovery, he was 25 years old and felt that he could no longer play football professionally again. 

L’abdine loved watching movies, art and acting, and decided to take acting classes.

In 2000 he traveled to the United Kingdom and settled there.

 

He joined the Birmingham School of Acting and graduated in 2002. 

At that time he was given the opportunity to participate in a British series called "Dream Team," where he played the role of a French football player over two seasons (2002-2004) and this series was his artistic kick off.

 

L’abdine is fluent in Arabic, English, French, Spanish and Italian, which allowed him to work in a number of international series like ‘’Wire in the blood’’ in 2004, ‘’the Bill’’ and ‘’the Doctors’’ in 2005. 

In 2006 he participated in three international movies: “A Different Dish,’’ ‘’Children of Men’’ and ‘’Mercante di Pietre.’’ In the same year he was involved in two series: ‘’Bombshell’’ and ‘’the Spooks.’’ 

In 2008 he was in the famous Tunisian series "Maktoob," where he played the role of Mohamed Ali and won widespread fame in Tunisia.

 

In the same year he hosted the Carthage International Film Festival.

 

He started his acting career in Egypt in 2012 with the Egyptian series ‘’Vertigo’’ with the Tunisian star Hend Sabry. 

Since his first foray into Egyptian drama he has won the love of Egyptians. 

 
 
      Recently, Dhafer starred in Netflix’s French-speaking serial drama The Eddy.
 
 
The series is produced and directed by the Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle (La la Land, Whiplash), written by Jack Throne, and coproduced by Alain Poul.
 
Furthermore, his latest film Bloodline, the first Arabic-speaking vampire horror, is now available on Shahid VIP, and his drama hit, Aroos Beirut ( Beirut Bride) was released a second season on MBC4, which received great reviews across the Arab world.
 
 
       Dhafer is a UN Women’s champion and he works closely with the United Nation on the matters of gender equality and violence against women.
 
In March 2018, Dhafer attended an event titled 'Understanding Masculinities in the Middle East and North Africa Region' at the Japan Society in New York as a guest of honor.
 
The event was organized by the UN Women, Brazilian organization Promundo, and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
