CAIRO – 3 July 2017: Cairo International Film Festival management announced Monday choosing veteran Egyptian star Hussein Fahmy to head the jury committee of the international competition in its 39th edition scheduled to begin November 21 and concludes November 30.

Fahmy was born in Cairo to an Egyptian mother and a German father on March 22, 1940. He studied filmmaking in Egypt and later in the University of California. Filmmaker for more than 50 years, Fahmy acted in more than 150 films throughout his long career.

Fahmy was the president of the Cairo International Film Festival from 1998 to 2001. In 1998, he was the first Goodwill Ambassador from the Arab world chosen by the UNDP.

Fahmy was Goodwill Ambassador for nine years. In March 2007, he was elected the first Special Olympics ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa region.

He headed many international festivals jury committees like the Muscat Film Festival and Oran Film Festival.
