CAIRO – 14 February 2021: The Egyptian Opera House commemorates late poet Hussein el-Sayed through an evening of the Cultural Opera Salon on February 17 at 7 p.m. in the Small Theater.

It is noteworthy that the poet Hussein el-Sayed is one of the most famous writers of songs in Egypt.

He wrote all type of songs which were performed by top singers. With musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab, they formed a flawless duo and performed the greatest songs that still inhabit the hearts of Egyptians.

Sayed was born on March 15, 1916 in Istanbul, to an Egyptian father and a Turkish mother. He came with her to Egypt at the age of two. He completed his primary education in Tanta, then came to Cairo, where his father was a big merchant.

He entered the French Freres School and excelled over all his classmates in the Arabic language. His artistic breakthrough came after he presented the “Musician of Generations” Mohamed Abdel-Wahhab, with the song “Egri Egri”.

Sayed passed away on February 27, 1985, leaving immortal works that formed an important part of the history of the Arabic song.
