Egypt’s Yehya Khalil to perform at Cairo Opera House on February 5

CAIRO - 30 January 2021: Famed Egyptian musician Yehya Khalil to perform at Cairo Opera House on February 5.

 

Khalil prepared a set of new works, which he will present for the first time along with a number of his famous works distinguished by their unique artistic style that blends the Egyptian music with jazz. 

That is in addition to a selection of international jazz works, as well as variations of a set of the most famous tunes of Arab music.

 

Khalil performed at Alexandria Opera House on January 15.

 

 

 Khalil who is the pioneer of jazz music in Egypt and the Arab world, performed an extraordinary concert that was held on July 10, 2020 in Cairo Opera House.

 

 

 

 

Khalil is the pioneer of jazz in Egypt and the Middle East and the first to mix Egyptian music with jazz.

 

He founded his band in 1979 after returning from the United States, where he mastered jazz and collaborated with major international musicians including Oliver Jones.

 

Khalil performed two concerts at Cairo Opera House on March 5 and 13, 2020 at the Small Theater. 




It is known that Khalil has stayed in the United Stated of America for more than 15 years, where he studied and starred as a drummer in numerous American bands. 

Khalil is the master of jazz in Egypt and the Middle East.

 

He was the first to blend Egyptian music with jazz music in the 1960s.

 

He toured most of the world with his music and participated in many international festivals. 

Khalil succeeded in creating a wide fan base from different age groups inside and outside Egypt.

 

The jazz master presented over 5,000 concerts around the world. 

Considered a remarkable jazz pioneer, Khalil is known for combining jazz tunes with oriental rhythms, attracting many music-loving youth with his significant fusion. 

When he was 14 years old, Khalil founded the Cairo Jazz Quartet, the first jazz band in Egypt.

The jazz legend shared the stage with a big number of famous rock, country and blues bands. 

He participated in joint performances with Rasputin’s Stash, and performed with jazz music icons such as Oliver Jones and Dizzy Gillespie. 

Khalil performed with Gillespie at the opening of the Cairo Opera House in 1989. 

He cooperated with a number of Egyptian singers, such as Mohamed Mounir, and currently presents jazz music on a state-owned Egyptian channel. 

Despite his artistic achievements in the jazz world at a young age, Khalil was eager to learn more about this kind of music by being closer to experts in different regions across the world. 

Through witnessing two extremely different music schools, eastern and western, Khalil returned back to his country to establish music platforms to perform his distinctive fusion music.
