CAIRO – 23 November 2020: The Instituto Cervantes in Cairo celebrates the Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca in cooperation with the Egyptian Aragouz Festival [Puppet Festival], the second edition of which will be held on November 24-28.

The celebration of the great Lorca will take place on November 26, at the headquarters of the Instituto Cervantes in Cairo, where the Egyptian folk troupe will present one of his texts to emphasize that the Aragouz [Puppet] arts are able to express the different cultures. The show also aims to showcase Lorca’s puppet theater productions.

On the same day, a symposium on the works and life of Lorca will be presented by the Spanish specialist, Pedro Ignacio del Castillo, with the aim of acquainting the audience with how Lorca was able to restore the popular tradition of puppet theater and give it artistic and literary value.

In addition, this symposium targets introducing the similarities between puppets in Spain and Aragouz in Egypt, based on the works of García Lorca.
