CAIRO – 20 September 2020: The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is currently finalizing work at a number of archaeological museums in preparation for their opening in the upcoming period, as part of the revitalization of Egyptian tourism.

 

The archaeologists and restorers of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities are working on completing work at various museums in a way that befits the ancient Egyptian civilization.

What are the museums that are being prepared?

 

Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada and Kafr el-Sheukh museums.

 

What is currently happening in Kafr el-Sheikh Museum?

 

Members of the Museum’s Exhibiting Committee are now placing the artifacts in the exhibiting showcases in the museum’s halls

 

What does the display scenario in Kafr el-Sheikh Museum narrate?

 

The display scenario of this museum revolves around the main theme of the myth of Isis and Osiris, and the struggle between Horus and Set. It also sheds light on a group of topics, such as the history of the ancient city of Boto, one of the ancient Egyptian capitals, and the history of science during different historical eras to link the museum to the University of Kafr el-Sheikh.

 

 

Does the museum highlight other topics through its display scenario?

 

Yes. The museum also highlights the path of the Holy Family's Flight to Egypt, Sakha in Kafr el-Sheikh is one of the cities the Holy Family crossed to the western side. This is in addition to some topics related to the city of Fuwah, which has a rich Islamic heritage. It includes all the cultural heritage of Kafr el-Sheikh, the third heritage city after Cairo and Rashid.

 

Are construction works completed in Kafr el-Sheikh Museum?

 

All construction works for the Kafr el-Sheikh Museum have been completed, including the lighting systems, fire alarms, and camera surveillance have been put in place and tested. 

 

This is in addition to completing the site coordination works from inside and outside the service area, identification and guide panels, explanatory maps for the site and the museum's visit path.

 

What is currently happening in Sharm el-Sheikh Museum?

 

So far 6062 artifacts have been received.

 

What are the last pieces received by the museum?

 

A rare piece of mosaic from Alexandria, dating back to the fourth century BC has been recently received. Also, the museum received the statue of the deity Eros hunting deer, to be displayed at the museum’s entrance; and another rare statue of the deity Bes made of incomplete burnt clay. The latter will be placed in the museum’s Man and Wildlife Hall.

 

What are the completed works at Sharm el-Sheikh Museum?

 

All works have been completed at the Hathorian and Royal Corridor and work has been almost completed in all the remaining halls. Completing the graphics and explanation cards is underway.

 

What does work in the next phase include?

 

It includes organizing the display of Sinai heritage, and the royal jewelry of the family of Mohammad Ali.

 

What works are currently held in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat?

 

The museum’s exhibition scenario was supported by a number of pieces dating back to the Islamic, Coptic, and Greco-Roman eras. The museum also received rare pieces from various Egyptian museums.
