Egypt’s Minister of Culture honors Egyptian theater icons

CAIRO – 6 September 2020: Egypt’s Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem honored a number of Egyptian theater icons within the celebration of the Egyptian Theater Day presented by Sameh Hussein and Sahar el-Sayegh.

 

Among the honorees were directors Fahmi el-Khouly, Khaled Galal and Abdel Rahman el- Shafei, in addition to star Ragaa Hussein, director Hamdy Tolba and late Mohsen Moselhi, Hussain el-Ezzaby, Hussein Mahmoud and a special honoring of the late Ali el-Raee.

 

The celebration was supervised by director Islam Imam, executive director of the festival.

 

The celebration began with a short show titled “Theater is Joy”, which was specially prepared for this occasion, and was directed by Nasser Abdel Moneim.

 

The show presented glimpses of the history of the Egyptian theater, confirming Egypt's leadership in theater. The show started with Yaqoub Sannoo, passing along all the pioneers and makers of the Egyptian theater.

 

The ceremony was attended by a large number of playwrights, critics and artists, including director Khaled Galal, artist Ismail Mukhtar, actress Salwa Mohammad Ali, artist Ihab Fahmy, artist Sabri Fawaz, scriptwriter Sayed Fouad, actress Wafa al-Hakim, artist Nermin Za’a, actress Wafa Abdullah, artist Yasser Sadiq, poet Ibrahim Abdel Fattah, as well as critics Mohammad al-Ruby, Yusri Hassan and Ahmed Khamis.
