Egypt’s tourism & antiquities min. to attend inauguration of “Kings of the Sun” exhibition in Prague

CAIRO – 27 August 2020: In the upcoming week, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism & Antiquities Khaled el-Anani will visit the Czech Republic, to attend the inauguration of the National Museum "Kings of the Sun" in the Czech capital, Prague, which will open its doors to display artifacts reflecting the ancient Egyptian civilization in the heart of Europe.

On the sidelines of the visit, Anani will hold a number of meetings with tour operators and officials in the Czech Republic, to discuss resuming the tourism movement and pushing the tourist numbers to Egypt.

The artifacts of the exhibition "Kings of the Sun" arrived in early August to the Czech capital, Prague, in preparation for its opening.

Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri, explained that the exhibition will resume for six months, until February 2021.

The exhibition displays 90 artifacts from the excavations of the Czech mission in the Archaeological Zone of Abu Sir, among them the head part of King Neferefre Isi statue and a group of statues from the Old Kingdom, including a statue of a writer, statues of senior statesmen and officials, and a group of canopic vessels, in addition to ten Ushabti statues of faience.

Also, Egypt is participating in the Virginia Museum of Art exhibition "Sunken Cities: The Enchanting World of Egypt", in its fourth stop in the United States of America.

Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said that the exhibition includes 293 artifacts that had been recovered from the cities of Heracleion and Canopus in the eastern port of Alexandria and Abu Qir port. 

The artifacts also include huge statues of the deities Isis, Serapis and statues of the Sphinx.
