Egyptian star Ramy Youssef’s successful comedy ‘Ramy’ is continuing its journey with Hulu for season 3

CAIRO – 11 July 2020: Egyptian – American star Ramy Youssef’s successful comedy ‘The Ramy’ has renewed for season 3 on Hulu.

 

‘’ The Ramy’’ series is a self-titled and semi-autobiographical, in which Youssef plays the title character.

The series tells the story of a millennial Muslim who is a second-generation American born to immigrant parents in the United States.

 

Youssef won the TV musical or comedy actor Golden Globe for his role in the Hulu comedy “Ramy,” which he also created, writes, produces and directs.



“I would like to thank my god, Allahu Akbar, and Hulu. I know you guys haven’t seen my show. Everyone is like, ‘is this an editor?'’ Youssef added after receiving the Golden Globe. “Allahu akbar” is a normal phrase for Muslims all over the world.

Youssef said this phrase to send a political message or some sort of protest against the ways non-Muslims have been programmed to believe “Allahu akbar” is merely a war cry.

Saying that on stage beside acclaimed Hollywood stars like Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, was his attempt to thrust his uncompromised identity into the Hollywood fancy word.

‘’Egyptians love Michael Douglas, I don’t know if you know this’’ Youssef said on stage joking that his mother was rooting for Douglas.

“We made a very special show about an Arab Muslim family living in New Jersey and this means a lot, to be recognized on this level” Youssef recounted after receiving the award.

Youssef is an American stand-up comedian and writer of Egyptian origins. Ramy Hassan role in the Hulu comedy series ‘’Ramy’’ was turning point in his career.Youssef was born in Queens to Egyptian parents.

He attended Rutherford High School. He performed sketch comedy while studying political science and economics in college.

While there, Youssef served as a camp counselor for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) in New Jersey. He left Rutgers when he was 20 and moved to Hollywood to enroll in acting school.

Youssef made his acting debut on the Nick at Nite sitcom See Dad Run in which he had a main role. During the run of the show, Youssef shadowed the writers' room, an experience Youssef would bring to his own show in 2019.

In 2017, Youssef appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where he performed his stand-up routine.

His television series Ramy debuted on Hulu on April 19, 2019, with 10 episodes.

Soon after its first season debuted, Hulu renewed it for a second season which was premiered on May 29.

The series season 2 focused on Youssef’s spiritual journey where he found a new Muslim community headed by Sheikh Ali (Mahershala Ali) and embraced a stronger commitment to his belief.


Also after the debut of Ramy, Youssef signed an overall television production deal with A24. He currently has two shows in development, one for Apple TV+ and one for Netflix.


Youssef isn’t the first Muslim or even the first actor with Egyptian Origins to win a Golden Globe, but this award was unique because of how he celebrated.He’s currently working on season 3 of Ramy for Hulu.
