CAIRO – 24 June 2020: Following the issuance of the prime minister’s decision to resume cultural and artistic activities, Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem met with heads of institutions and sectors to start implementing plans to gradually resume work in all cultural and artistic sites as of mid-July.

During the meeting, Abdel Dayem said that resuming cultural and artistic events is a positive result of the nation's ability to face challenges. She stressed the need to adhere to the precautionary measures approved by the state, commit to social distancing, occupy only 25 percent of the capacity of all cultural facilities, and assign an educational guide to ensure public safety.

Moreover, Abdel Dayem confirmed that a committee was formed to follow up the implementation of these procedures in all locations, explaining that the decision applies to museums and plastic arts exhibitions, national circus shows, state theaters, Opera House shows, seminars, cultural and intellectual evenings, in addition to some activities that stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Abdel Dayem added that the open theaters that were created during the summer period will be first to resume activity, adding that the electronic cultural services will be resumed online through the ministry’s official YouTube channel and its official website, while developing and enriching its content.

The minister expressed the happiness of the cultural and artistic community with the decision, noting that the programs that were prepared reflect the role of culture and arts in society as two of the most important pillars of development and progression.
