CAIRO - 24 February 2020: Saudi Minister of Culture Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan issued a decision appointing Saudi musician, Jihad al-Khaldi, as CEO of the Music Authority.

Appointing Khaldi comes as a first step to start the work of the authority and its responsibilities towards developing the Saudi music sector.

The ministry has defined the tasks of the new president, including setting strategies and standards; organizing related events; providing training courses and professional programs; supporting intellectual copyrights; cultural cooperation with relevant regional and international organizations; encouraging financing, investment, production and development of content; and issuing licenses for activities related to the music sector.

According to the Saudi newspaper Okaz, Jihad al-Khaldi has more than 33 years of experience in the field of music. She worked as a violinist in the Egyptian Orchestra for 8 years. She also obtained a bachelor’s degree in violin and music theory from the High Institute of Music in Cairo. This is in addition to her management experience.

Through the Music Authority, the Ministry of Culture seeks to regulate and develop the music sector in the kingdom, and to support and encourage music practitioners.

It will also work with the relevant authorities to support the protection of intellectual copyrights in areas related to music, and will hold training courses and relevant professional programs to encourage music practitioners and enthusiasts to develop the Saudi musical content.

The Music Authority is one of 11 new bodies launched by the Ministry of Culture to serve and develop the sub-cultural sectors that were included in its vision and orientation document in March 2019.
