CAIRO - 26 January 2020: Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem convened with the delegation headed by Hans Joachim, the artistic director of the Sember Opera and theater director at the Dresden Opera.

This convention came following granting the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi the Saint George Medal in the category of Politics and Culture, for his efforts in various fields, especially in the fields of security, stability and development in Egypt, in addition to his leadership role in achieving the development aspirations of the African continent.

The delegation included the artistic director Patrick Steiner, economist Nicholas Holtzer, Andreas Christian, a member of the German-Egyptian Cultural Association Marion Formelat, and the Lebanese expert in artistic industries Joseph Sion.

The convention was held in the presence of the President of the Egyptian Opera House Magdy Saber and Head of the Foreign Cultural Relations Sector Heba Youssef, to discuss ways to enhance cultural and artistic cooperation between the two countries.

Abdel Dayem stated that the meeting opens new horizons for cooperation with the German side, especially with the opening of the Opera House in the new administrative capital and the city of culture and arts.

She explained that initiatives and projects have been suggested in cooperation with the Dresden Opera along with a proposal to participate in the Semper Opera Ball honoring the character who received the Medal of St. George.

It is the largest classic art event to be held in Europe and scheduled for February 7 in Dresden Opera, Germany.

For his part, the head of the delegation said that the visit aims to open channels of creative partnership with the Egyptian culture, especially between the Dresden Opera and Cairo Opera, the oldest opera in the Middle East and Africa. He explained that this cooperation includes the exchange of shows and experiences between the two operas at all levels.

It is noteworthy that the Medal of St. George is awarded annually by Germany to one of the influential international figures in the international community. It was first celebrated in the year 2009, when it was received by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and likewise, his Romanian counterpart, Klaus Yohannes in 2017.

The “character of the year” is honored in an artistic event that is the largest in Europe and is held in the presence of 2000 viewers inside the Dresden Opera Theater and more than 1500 others in the outdoor arena through screens to convey the event.
