CAIRO - 31 December 2019: 2019 was a very important year for global auctions. Sotheby's Auction House saw a record drop in artist Claude Monet's paintings this year, whereas, the “dynamic harp” painting of 1890, achieved a new record as it was sold for $ 110.7 million.

Sotheby's World Auction House revealed the most important artistic paintings that were sold at high prices during 2019.

Sothbey’s Auction House sold Francis Bacon’s painting in 1952 for £50,380,00. The artist was known to be a horror artist because he provided portraits of tortured people or individuals appearing as ghosts. His works were successfully exhibited in the major capitals of the world.

Mark Rothko's painting “The Untitled Portrait” was completed in 1960, a decade before his death. It was sold for an astounding sum of £50,095,00. It is noteworthy that Mark Rothko is a painter and professor from the United States of America, born in Daugavpils. One of his paintings joined the list of the 20 most expensive oil paintings in the world and sold for $75.1 million dollars.

Willem de Kooning painting entitled "The Twenty-Second Unit," was sold for $30,105,00. Artist Willem de Kooning was born in Rotterdam (1904 - 1997). He is an artist, painter, sculptor and professor (university professor) from the United States of America and the Netherlands.

Under the contemporary art, the painting “Blue and Red” was sold by Mark Rothko (1903 - 1970) at £ 26,461,00. The painting was completed in 1953.
