CAIRO – 16 June 2017: Egyptian actor Khaled El Nabawy dedicated his outstanding performance playing the role of Mahmoud Abdel Zaher in Ramadan series ‘’Wahet El Ghroub’’ (“Sunset Oasis”) to the soul of the late Egyptian megastar Ahmed Zaki.

“To the dear soul of the high acting calling, the great artist Ahmed Zaki, I dedicate to you my performance in “Wahet El Groub” soap opera, may god rest your soul in peace, you will always be an acting pedagogue,’’ said a voice note Nabawy posted on his Twitter account Thursday.

The film adaptation of “Wahet al-Ghroub” quickly became one of the top-viewed soap operas during Ramadan 2017. It is an adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same title by Bahaa Taher, published in 2008. The novel won the first round of the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (also known as the Arabic Booker Prize) in the same year.

Nabawy plays the main character in the series, police officer Mahmoud Abdel Zaher, finds himself forced to serve in the isolated Siwa Oasis between the Qattara Depression and the Egyptian Sand Sea in the Western Desert. Nabawy plays a very rich character; a man full of questions and regrets, blaming everyone around him for his own decisions.
