CAIRO - 26 November 2019: “Mamalek el-Nar” is now available on Shahed.net. The series has been broadcast on MBC channels since November 17 and has grasped the attention of Arab spectators.

“Mamalek el-Nar” (Kingdoms of Fire) is the biggest production of its kind in the MENA region and is an Emirati production. The series is directed by British director Peter Webber, who has directed a long list of successful works, including “Hannibal Rising”, “Girl With A Pearl Earring” and “Emperor”.

The entire series was filmed in Tunisia. Produced by Genomedia, the total cost of the production of “Mamalek el-Nar” totalled up to $40 million.

“Mamalek el-Nar” combines big names in the drama-making industry from Italy, Colombia and Australia, including luigi Marchionni who has previously worked with world-class directors such as Italian film director Giuseppe Tornatore and English Filmmaker Ridley Scott.

The series stars Khaled el-Nabawy, Mahmoud Nasr, Kenda Hanna, Rashid Assaf, Mona Wassef, in addition to a wide number of Egyptian and Syrian drama superstars. The widely viewed series is written by Egyptian author Mohamed Sulleiman Abdel Malik.

Nabawy plays the role of Tuman Bay, the last of the Mamluk rulers in Egypt, who embarked on a rigorous battle with the Ottomans, and got defeated, placing Egypt under the Ottoman rule.

“Mamalek el-Nar” interweaves the political with the social in a fabulous artistic work, where Egyptian author Mohamed Suleiman Abdel Malik combined historical accuracy and fiction in many of the screenplay’s events.

The series tells in 14 episodes the story of the Ottoman-Mamluk conflict and the occupation of Egypt and Sham (now Syria) by the Ottoman Sultan Selim I, in addition to the hanging of Tuman Bay at Bab Zuweila. The series also illustrates the end of the Mamluk State because of betrayal.
