CAIRO - 16 October 2019: Bullying is not something to be treated lightly. It certainly can destroy lives. Tens of thousands of individuals face bullying daily in its various shapes and forms. The latest known victim was American pop singer Sulli.

Despite having an angelic face and a fit physique, pop singer Sulli was bullied by her followers on social media. The comments heavily impacted her fragile soul and made her slip into depression.

It is widely perceived that Sulli became extremely upset after a live footage she made on her official Instagram account, speaking about how some negative “bullying” comments made by her followers caused her to become depressed.

The beautiful young woman was born on March 29, 1994 and passed away on Monday, Oct. 14 at the age of 25. Her lifeless body was found in an apartment in Seoul, South Korea.

According to Reuters, Sulli complained on a television program about receiving “hurtful” comments on social media platforms after appearing in several photos not wearing a bra, which some found offensive and fiercely criticized her. Sulli described the comments as “bullying”. Those statements were made by the deceased singer on July 21.

The pop singer further explained that such comments scared her, and that people should respect each other’s choices without having to be mean in their criticizing once they spot something they don't condone. Sulli explained that she did not expect her photos would spark such in-comprehensive criticism. She stated that people should accept one another they way they please to appear.

Bullying can be very painful, especially for those who acquire a sensitive, delicate soul. People are meant to be different. It is unexplainable to become aggressive or hurt someone just because you happen to disagree with their actions, decisions or beliefs. Learning to move on in such cases is what maturity and civility is all about.

Despite being named “social media” platforms, I personally believe social media created a big gap between individuals regarding natural and healthy human relations. Many people nowadays resort to social media in order to attack and hurt others, unnecessarily.

Parents at home should raise their children to accept one another, love one another, and that differences among humans is actually healthy. Bullying must be combated by implementing strict laws banning such unacceptable behavior, as the action of bullying could equate to murder, sometimes.
