CAIRO - 24 September 2019: Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem issued a decision to assign Souad Shawky as Head of the Egyptian Film Center for a period of one year.

Shawky graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema with honors. She then obtained a master's degree in 2001. She then received a PhD with excellence in 2010 on the problem of temporal construction in contemporary cinematic narratives.

Shawky directed 4 short films during her study period, including; “El-Hawy”, “El-Rasm belnar”, “Omahat lam yaledan” and “Fe haga keda”.

She also directed various documentaries, short fiction and episodes for a range of programs. Shawky worked as an assistant professor in the directing department at the Higher Institute of Cinema, as well as seconded in numerous Egyptian universities.

The newly assigned Head of the Egyptian Film Center participated in various local and international festivals, including; television festivals, national cinema, radio and television, Munich short films (Germany), short films in London, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

Shawky was also granted several awards, including Best Short Film Award for her film “Kaif Trani?” at the Alexandria International Festival, Best Short Film Award also for "Kaif Trani?" at the Women's International Film Competition at Muscat International Festival, among others.
