CAIRO – 19 September 2019: The Immigration Ministry has chosen Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud as an ambassador for the “Etkallem Masry” (speak Egyptian) initiative, which promotes the national identity among Egyptians abroad.

On Wednesday, Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram met the Alaadin actor who is in Egypt to participate in al-Gouna Film Festival Sept. 19-17. She expressed pride in Massoud’s Hollwood success, as well as his ability to speak Arabic.

Massoud said he was happy to have been chosen and to be in Egypt, noting that he has always been keen on practicing his mother tongue. For her part, Makram said his example gives a positive image of Egypt internationally.

The Etkallem Masry initiative includes a program that teaches Arabic and the Egyptian accent, and has sections for every age group.
