CAIRO - 11 September 2019: The opening ceremony of the 26th Cairo International Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theater (CIFCET) chaired by Sameh Amin, started with the National Anthem, followed by a dancing performance and a short film portraying the festival's presentations and activities.

The opening ceremony was held on Sept. 10 and was attended by Samiha Ayoub, Ahmed Kamal, Samira Abdel Aziz, Magdy Fekry, Ashraf Tolba, director Nasser Abdel Moneim and director Tarek al-Duwairi.

The festival honors five theatrical Arab and foreigner pioneers, including writer Le Bruyer of America, director Theodoros Terzopoulos of Greece, Jessica Kahwa from Uganda, playwright Mohamed Abul Ela el-Salamony from Egypt, director Ziani Cherif Ayad from Algeria and Mohsen Ali from Iraq.

The Festival Medal will be awarded to a group of artists and Egyptian playwrights in recognition of their artistic and critical contributions. Among the honorees are Samira Abdel Aziz, critic Abdel Razek Hussein, Sayed Ragab, director Ahmed Kamal, director Hanaa Abdel Fattah, critic Hazem Shehata and director Mohamed Aboul Saud.

Greek director Theodoros Terzopoulos missed his honoring at the opening ceremony of the experimental festival now taking place in the Egyptian Opera House due to health problems.
