Iconic Afaf Radi returns to performing concerts

CAIRO - 28 August 2019: Iconic singer Afaf Radi returns to performing concerts after a long hiatus. Radi is the first Egyptian singer to perform on the stage of Damascus Opera House on August 31.

The concert comes as part of the opening ceremony of Damascus International Fair.

Over the course of its 61st edition, the fair’s management is keen to invite major singers to perform concerts. Prominent stars has performed in the fair’s previous editions, such as Umm Kulthum, Abdel Halim Hafez, Fairouz, Warda, Shadia, Sabah, Fayza Ahmed and others.

Radi told the press that her family motivated her to return to singing live, and explained that she will travel within days to Damascus to rehearse ahead of the concert.

The veteran singer added that she is very excited to meet her Arab audience and that she feels she is singing for the first time. Radi pointed out that she will perform in the concert many of the masterpieces she presented during her career in cooperation with the most prominent composers, such as Baligh Hamdy, Mounir Mourad, Mohamed el-Mougi and Kamal el-Tawil.

The iconic singer mentioned that she has performed several concerts in Damascus, stressing that the Syrian public has a great taste for art. She has participated with late actor Nour el-Sherif in the theatrical show "Jerusalem will not fall" in Syria.

Radi stressed that she doesn't mind singing in concerts held inside or outside the Egyptian Opera House, and that when she has the opportunity to present a concert to her audience in Egypt, she will never hesitate to accept.
