CAIRO - 11 June 2019: Famed actor Ahmed Abdel Aziz, president of the National Festival of Egyptian Theater, affirmed that the festival’s 12th edition will see the creation of a competition and a permanent award in playwriting named after prominent writer Lenin el-Ramli.

Abdel Aziz stressed that the goal of the award is to create a new generation of young pioneers in writing and theatrical composition. Abdel Aziz further explained that this step comes from the government’s interest in honoring the creators and appreciating Lenin el-Ramli's contributions in the field of playwriting and his artistic and literary career, which lasted for nearly half a century.

This decision came after the convention of the festival's Supreme Committee and the approval of the Ministry of Culture on the decision. The Supreme Committee of the National Festival includes a great number of Egyptian actors from different generations and disciplines in theater.

In the field of criticism, critic and writer Mohamed Bahgat, who has a lot of theatrical and critical articles, was one of the committee members. From the younger generation, critic Rana Abdul Qawi joined the committee. Abdul Qawi represents the young generation of critics, as she possesses a distinguished theatrical vision.

The committee also includes artist Azza Labib, a distinguished theatrical artist who is widely interested in Child Theater. Also, Fatma Mohammed Ali, one of the artists who received many prizes at the National Festival of Egyptian Theater, was selected among the committee.

Among the members of the committee is rising director Ahmed el-Sayed. The last member of the committee is producer Hesham Soliman.
