CAIRO - 28 April 2019: The Supreme Council for Media Regulation has issued a statement calling on TV channels to abide by Egyptian values and identity in the drama content set to be broadcast during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Below is the statement:

Severe penalties for non-compliance with values in Ramadan

The Supreme Council for Media Regulation called on production companies and television channels to maintain the Egyptian values and identity in the drama series set to be aired during the Holy month of Ramadan.

The Council stressed in a statement Monday that it is necessary to respect the spiritual nature of the holy month, besides preventing ads that violate the values of the Egyptian people, and the spiritual nature of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Supreme Council for Media Regulation warned the media outlets that a fine of LE 250,000 will be imposed in case any word of obscenity was used in any of the advertisements, and that the violating ads will be banned.

The Supreme Council for Media Regulations banned the broadcasting of three advertisements during the previous Ramadan in 2018: Danone Yogurt, Underwear ad and the polluted water ad.

A source at the Supreme Council explained that a committee to monitor drama has been formed, headed by Magdy Lashin, and will be tasked along with another committee, headed by Suzan al-Qelini, to monitor TV programs and series during the Holy month of Ramadan, in addition to filing a report about them to the council.
