CAIRO – 23 March 2019: The eighth edition of Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF) will hold a press conference on Sunday, March 24 to announce all the details pertaining to its upcoming edition.

D-CAF will kick off from March 29th to April 21th , 2019.

This edition will house 40 events and several workshops from global acclaimed artists.

D-CAF schedule this year contains 10 performing arts events, 7 music concerts, 4 urban vision performances, 2 new media program, 2 film programs, 7 special events/workshops from Denmark, Hungary, France, US, UK, Germany, Iran, Syria, and Egypt.

Since 2012, D-CAF is Egypt's only international, multidisciplinary arts festival that showcases performances ranging from theatre, to film, to music.

D-CAF was the first contemporary arts festival to introduce Cairo audience and professional/amateur artists to a notable group of arts performances from all over the world.

The hip hop dance, which is part of the identity of the city of Casablanca, will be presented by eight pioneering hip-hop dancers, who will highlight the culture of this vibrant Moroccan city through their creativity.

The show will be held during the closure of D-CAF in Cairo on April 18 and in Alexandria in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on April 20.

Coming back for another round of remarkable shows, ranging from dance to music, film, literature and visual arts, the seventh edition of D-CAF has displayed an array of performance that ran from March 9 to March 29, 2018, with a special “women-dedicated” edition and cutting-edge performances that shed light on the ever-developing Arab arts.

Among the special performances that took place last year was the street performances Urban Visions (Trolleys, Dedicated To, Square one, and Shapers) by Shaun Parker & Company who toured D-Caf after receiving a grant funding from the Council for Australian – Arab relations of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

For the very first time, Egypt’s only multi-disciplinary, international contemporary arts festival was inaugurated outside the downtown Cairo area, with the opening music concert that took place at Al-Azhar Park.

And as it sat off on International Women’s Day, last year’s event has been planned as a special women’s edition.
