'Rabie Chetwi' to screen in Sakia Short Film Festival's opening ceremony

CAIRO - 13 March 2019: The 16th edition of the Sakia Short Film Festival is set to launch on March 13 at 6:30 p.m. in Al Hekma Theater. The film “Rabie Chetwi” (Wintry Spring) will screen in the opening ceremony.

A total of 18 short films will compete for the festival’s official awards on March 13, 14.

“Rabie Chetwi” tells the story of Nour, a girl in elementary school living alone with her father. Nour hits puberty and finds it difficult to reveal that news to her father. The father cannot fathom the change that occurred in his daughter's life, which sparked tension in their relationship. Veteran actor Ahmed Kamal plays the role of the father, whereas Nour is played by Iman Mostafa.

The film has been featured in more than 237 international festivals around the world in more than 60 countries and has won 35 awards in several international film festivals.

Six Arab countries will be represented during the festival, which will honor Ragaa Hussein, Arfa Abdul Rasool and Mohsen Muhyuddin for their roles that enriched the film industry.

The festival's judging committee is headed by Samir Seif, cinematographer Mohamed Suleiman Abdul Malek and critic Marwa Abu Aish.

The final day of the festival will announce the winners of the three Golden, Silver and Bronze Sakia Awards, in addition to the Best Male Leading Role Award, Best Female Leading Role Award, and Best Director Award, among others.
