CAIRO - 4 March 2019: The Egyptian play "The Forty Rules of Love" is currently being featured on El-Salam Theater, achieving booming success.

After about 3 months from its first display on the National theatre, "The Forty Rules of Love" achieved more than LE 1,000000 ($ 55974), despite that it was produced with only LE 200,000.

This is considered a record in the history of the National theatre, as it is the first play to achieve such revenues without relying on superstars.

The play is adapted from the famous novel "The Forty Rules of Love" by acclaimed Turkish author Elif Shafak. The novel revolves around the forty-year old Ella Rubenstein who is unhappy in her marriage.

She accepted a job to work as a reader for a literary agent, where her first task was to read and write a report about a novel named "Sweet Blasphemy’’ written by an author named Aziz Zahara. Rubenstein was fascinated by the story of Shams’s search for his beloved Rumi.

She was also dazzled by Shams’s rule that gives insight based on the unity of all people and religions, stressing the existence of love inside each one of us.

After reading the story, Rubenstein realizes that Rumi’s story parallels her life, and Zahara was like her Shams, aiming to set her free.

"The Forty Rules of Love" stars Bahaa Sarwat, Ezzat Zain, Fawzia, Amira Abou Zeid, Dina Ahmed, and Ahmed Magdy and is directed by Adel Hassaan.
