Ahmed Dorra elected regional secretary of African Union of Cinematographers

CAIRO - 24 February 2019: Egyptian director and critic Ahmed Atef Dorra was elected regional secretary of the African Union of Cinematographers after a rigorous competition at the league's conference held in Burkina Faso on February 21 and 22.

The conference came two days before the opening of FESPACO Festival, one of the largest film festivals in the African continent. Dorra was unanimously elected by the representatives of 24 African countries who attended the conference. Dorra has held this position for the last six years, during which he contributed to the development of African cinema through the provision educational workshops, the development of legislation and the preservation of the African film heritage.

Former Minister of Culture of Mali, world famous director Sheikh Omar, expressed appreciation of Dorra’s role in the renaissance of African cinema.In his speech, Dorra also highlighted Egypt's significant role in developing cooperation with Africa under Egypt's current presidency of the African Union.
