CAIRO – 19 November 2018: Renowned Tunisian singer Ghalia Ben Ali will participate for the first time as an actress in Cairo International Film Festival with her Tunisian movie "Fatwa".

"Fatwa" recently won the Golden Tanit award from Carthage International Film Festival.

Ben Ali studied art in Belgium and then found herself mesmerized by the multiculturalism of the Middle East.

She grew up listening to the voices of Umm Kulthum and other Arab legends, and watching Arabic films that later contributed to her understanding of the multiple Arabic cultures and philosophies.

She embarked on her artistic journey and released her first album in the late 1990s. Her album “Ghalia Benali Sings Om Kalthoum”, released in 2010, attracted many Arab youth to enjoy the classical strong lyrics of the famous Umm Kulthum and discover ben Ali.

Ben Ali participated in Citybeats Music Festival which kicked off on June 4 in Paris.

Being the first Arab music festival in Paris, Citybeats Music Festival hosted in its first edition three Arab music stars: Tunisian Ghalia ben Ali, Egyptian Maryam Saleh and Palestinian-Jordanian singer El-Farei.

The 40th round of the Cairo International Film Festival will run from November 20 to November 29.

CIFF head Mohmamed Hefzy previously announced that many developments will take place in the upcoming edition which come as part of the festival’s plan to pay more attention to the sound and image of the presented films, in addition to screening a number of films using the 4k technique.

Furthermore, the festival will present for the first time in its history 14 or 15 international film premieres.
