In this regard, Hayrabtian expressed his thanks to Egypt for launching the “We are Egyptian Armenians” week and hosting Armenians.

Furthermore, Makram and Armenian minister of expats will attend a cultural evening at the National Theater.

In 2016, Egyptian director Waheed Sobhi released a 90-minute documentary entitled “We Are Egyptian Armenians”, which revolves around the history of the Armenian community in Egypt as recounted by many of its members and supported with archival materials including photos, videos and paintings.

This documentary shows how Egypt gave the Armenians equal rights as citizens and allowed them to preserve their language, culture and heritage by building their own schools, sporting clubs and churches. It also demonstrates how the Armenians contributed to the Egyptian social and economic life.

Created in cooperation with scriptwriter Eva Dadrian and researcher and executive producer Hanan Ezzat, the film was screened at the Cairo International Film Festival 2016, the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam and the Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Jordan.
