CAIRO – 2 September 2018: During the early hours of September 2, 2018, Minister of Culture Enas Abdel Dayem officially appointed Dr. Ashraf Zaki as the new president of the Academy of Arts, after Dr. Ahlam Younis, the former president of the academy, retired.

Zaki was the best candidate for this position for the following reasons:

• His extended educational/academic experience, which he gained from teaching in the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts for over 25 years, until he became the dean of the institute. During his teaching career, Zaki educated numerous super stars such as Ahmed el-Sakka, Mohamed Sa’ad, Ramez and Yasser Galal.

• Zaki’s exposure and communication with the youth in the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts for many decades gave him exceptional academic knowledge. He organized numerous theatrical shows for his students that competed in numerous festivals. In addition to that, Zaki founded El-Nahar Theatre, in which numerous students of the institute who suffer unemployment, performed.

• Due to Zaki’s success as the head of the Artistic Syndicate in Egypt and his continuous communication with artists to solve their problems, he managed to gain the appraisal of artists and became popular among them.

Zaki managed to perform numerous tasks simultaneously, proving that he is active and multi-tasking and seeks to serve the art industry in Egypt. He carried out all the previously mentioned roles, all while performing as an actor in numerous drama works.
