CAIRO – 22 April 2018: As part of the Cairo Cinema Days event, Rana Eid will be hosting a Masterclass at Cinematheque on Sound Design on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
Born in 1976 in Beirut, Eid received a Bachelor's degree in Cinema and a Master's in Film Sound from Beirut's Saint Joseph University in 2002. Shortly after, she traveled to Paris to study and train in Sound Design for a year, eventually settling into her job as Sound Editor from 2003.

She excelled to the point that she has been named as one of Lebanon's most important people in the field and has worked as sound designer and editor for local film-makers such as Khalil Joreige, Joana Hadjithomas and Philippe Aractangi. Eventually, Eid would branch out into making films of her own as well.

She is best known for her 2017 documentary "Panoptic", which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and was nominated for a Best Film award there. The documentary explores the roots of strife and unrest in Lebanon, Eid explores the underground of Beirut through its sounds and secrets, telling the story of a nation striving to become modern but held back by it's past. "Panoptic" is one of the many films being showcased in this year's Cairo Cinema Days.

For her Masterclass, Eid implores her pupils to look at the way mass media has shaped the international community's perceptions of the Middle East as a place of constant violence, strife, conflicts and armed protests, which has led to racism and anti-Muslim sentiment while only breeding more fear instead of understanding. Eid states that the way to combat this is through allowing audiences to listen to what happens in the cities of the Middle East. Eid states the importance of good sound design coupled with images in creating an experience that truly transports viewers into another place.
