CAIRO – 30 April 2017: Egyptian candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, Moushira Khattab, deserves the post given Egypt’s historical, cultural and social status, said Dietrich Raue, Director of the Egyptian Museum at Leipzig University in Germany and Head of the Egyptian-German Archaeological Mission at Matariya archaeological site.

His comments came during a lecture on Egypt and archaeological excavations at the Egyptian Embassy in Berlin, on Thursday, in the presence of Egypt’s Ambassador to Germany Bader al-Atti, Ambassador Khattab and a large number of archaeologists, scientists and researchers.

Khattab is an Egyptian human rights activist and diplomat. She was the former minister of family and population and a former assistant to the minister of foreign affairs.

She advocates children and women’s rights and was the former chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. Khattab’s efforts are recognised internationally as she has received numerous awards and medals.

Owing to her accomplishments, she was chosen as Egypt’s candidate for the position of Director-General of the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in July 2016.
