CAIRO – 8 January 2018: Haitham el-Hag, head of the Egyptian General Authority for Books, announced that publishing houses’ participation in Cairo International Book Fair this year increased significantly compared to last year.

“The increase in publishing houses’ participation in the 49th edition is 120% of last year,’’ Hag stated.

Hag added that about 144 new publishing houses are participating in the book fair this year for the first time. The 49th Cairo International Book Fair press conference will be held on Wednesday, January 10.

“The Fairs Authority suggested launching a second round of the book fair in October. From our side as the Egyptian General Authority for Books, we are ready to cooperate in the launching of any book fair. We are currently discussing this proposal,” Hag said.

Hag announced that the press conference will discuss all the details and preparations of the next edition, and they will also announce the winning poster of the 49th edition.

It is worth mentioning that the 49th Cairo International Book Fair will kick off on January 27 and will continue until February 10. Algeria will be this edition’s guest of honor, and the person of the year will be late veteran writer Abdel Rahaman el-Sharakawy. The 49th CIBF slogan is “Soft Powers…How?”

The 49th edition will host a lot of new activities for the first time, like establishing theaters, cinema halls and fine arts halls, in addition to increasing the number of books dedicated to children.
