CAIRO – 6 April 2017: A photography project titled “Your silence is harassment” is encouraging people to take action any time they see an act of sexual harassment in a public space.

The project, by photographer Marwa Ragheb along with students from the Acting Institute of Cairo, has been going viral for weeks on social media platforms as it portrays daily-life situations where Egyptian women often face harassment.

The project features women in different situations being harassed while they are commuting, grocery shopping or simply walking down the streets; the people around them observe the acts of harassment silently.

Ragheb

pointed out on her official face page

that, regardless of a women’s appearance in the streets, sexual harassment is becoming a norm in Egyptian society and will continue that way so long as people are silent about it.
